I know that most clients have never worked with a professional photographer before selecting one for their wedding! That's OK. You have to start somewhere.

 

I've been shooting weddings since 2004 and the very first thing that happens when clients contact me is that they have that AWFUL Bride's Preparation Book that they picked up or paid for at a bridal show. It's full of things that you are SUPPOSED to ask your future wedding photographer.

 

So to make life a little easier for you, I have put together a list of most of the more common questions that I have asked by nearly all of my potential clients over the years. I hope that the following Q & A's give you some helpful information in deciding to partner with me for your wedding.

 

Make no mistake -- we will be partners -- from the initial consultation, through all the planning, engagement session, your wedding and beyond!

SO HERE ARE OUR ANSWERS TO THE MORE COMMON ONES

Your wedding is the most important day of your life. Your images are the only takeaways that you will have. Flowers die. The taste of the food and the cake will be forgotten. There are all kinds of "photographers" out there but you want to make sure that you can trust the one that you hire. A professional photographer will have the experience and education to help you successfully navigate the course from booking through album delivery. Professional photographers know how to work under all conditions including unruly and non-cooperative guests, family and wedding party. The biggest investment to ensure that you have beautiful images that will stand the test of time is to hire a professional wedding photographer.

I have been personally shooting weddings since 2004 and, at last count, have photographed over 300.

Absolutely -- I would love to!  We can get together at one of our local coffee shops so I can hear all about your big plans.  Just give me a call or pop me off an e-mail and we will get your consultation on our schedule.

Of course!  Most of my clients over the last couple of years do everything through e-mail, text, phone and SKYPE.  We do a lot of consultig and everything is handled electronically now.  We always work around your schedule to make it easy for you to book with us.

We prefer e-money transfer (EMT) but also accept cash, cheque, credit cards using Square (by phone only) or PayPal. We try to make it easy for you with this variety of options.

All of my wedding collections include high resolution, non-watermarked, ready to print digital files in JPG format only. Images have basic editing completed (colour correction & sharpening to our professional lab's standards). A personal print license is included for your convenience.

Our coverage is based on your needs! Most couples do not require a photographer at the hairdresser's or until the last guest leaves the party. Our most common coverage is between 6 - 7 hours. We do have a minimum number of hours (5) for weekend weddings. During the initial consultation we will review the aspects of your day that require coverage to ensure that we are able to capture ALL the important bits!

I do offer some "intimate" packages for weddings that take place on Monday through Thursday.  Holiday weekends do not qualify for discounted pricing.

I try to get your images back to you in a timely manner; however, the general timeline is between 8 to 12 weeks. Two or Three sneak peeks are usually blogged within one week after your wedding.

During a normal wedding season (between May 24th & October 15th), I photograph about 20 with another 10 or so during low season (Oct. 16 - May 23).

I shoot entirely in RAW format. Unfortunately, RAW files are not for sale as your beautiful finished images are processed in the NightinGail style that we are famous for. We only deliver finished images as part of your collection.

I shoot all over Ontario cottage county and beyond.  I love photographing in new locations and at different and exciting venues.  Our regular service area covers the Muskokas, the Kawarthas and the Haliburton Highlands.  No travel fees apply to these areas.  If you are outside our home area, I'll be happy to discuss fees based on your specific location.

YES! Engagement sessions are FUN! Every couple should have one. The #1 reason is that this session gets you both in front of the camera in preparation for your wedding day. Most couples have never had professional photos taken so this gives you some idea of what will happen on your big day. These photographs can be used for invitations, save-the-date cards or in a custom-designed guest book or a signature print for your wedding.

If your wedding venue doesn't have a location option on-site, I will be happy to help you find something close-by.

If your location requires one - yes, you are. Please make sure to book the location as soon as you decide where you want to have your photographs taken because many of them book up very quickly -- sometimes as much as two years in advance. Also, make sure that the original copy of the permit goes with someone responsible to the location on your wedding day, or you will be denied access.

I strongly recommend having at least two (2) hours for us to capture all of your main formals and the creatives.  This will allow time for the family photos, the bridal party, and of course, both of you.  The more time that you allow us, the larger variety of images we can provide for you.

Unfortunately, no. No matter what the size of the wedding, it requires the same amount of time, effort, creativity and talent to produce your beautiful images. We will go over your plans and determin what would be best suited for your weddig. Some discounts may be available depending of the date.

No, unfortunately, I do not work from a list of shots with the exception of our standard family member list which we provide in order to make the formals go smoothly. I do, however, want to hear about any special or different plans for your wedding day and I make every effort to capture all of those from the details to the reception and everything in between. I do love Pinterest but what you may see or love on this application, often cannot be recreated at your location or on your wedding day due to lighting and location. Pinterest ideas really slow down our creativity process.

Every year I shoot at new locations and I LOVE it! Being a professional photographer means that I can walk into a new venue on your day and easily work with it. Scouting is available for an extra fee if this would make you more comfortable. That being said, scouting a location doesn't guarantee that the lighting/weather will be the same on your wedding day which could completely change how I work with the location anyway.

None! I give my clients 100% of my time and talent so I never double-book anything on a wedding weekend. No family sessions or engagements -- Nothing!

All of NightinGail's Signature Wedding Collections include a second photographer*. I work with one of four professional wedding photographers, depending on availability, who reflect our style and skill levels. Every one of our associate photographers has worked with me for between 8 - 10 years and have their own professional wedding photography business. *Basic Collections do not include a second.

Simple! Do your research. What type of photography do you like? What do the finished images look like? Shortlist between 3 and 5 photographers that you absolutely LOVE and meet with them. Make sure that you view their work and products (including a whole wedding). Talk to them about your wedding day and ask a lot of questions. You will be spending more time with your photographer than with any other vendor on your day, so besides their work and style, make sure that you enjoy their personality for more than a couple of hours. You have to be able to trust this person to capture your day and give you images you love for years!

A $1000* non-refundable retainer along with a signed contract is required to secure your wedding date. Engagement sessions not included in your collection or lifestyle sessions require a 50% retainer and a signed contract. We accept EMT (e-money transfer), cash, cheque, PayPal, and all major credit cards using Square. *subject to change without notice
