Questions That You Ask Us

I know that most clients have never worked with a professional photographer before selecting one for their wedding!  That's OK.  You have to start somewhere.

I have been shooting weddings since 2004 and one of the first things that happen when clients contact me is that they have that AWFUL Bride's Preparation Book that you picked up or paid for at a bridal show.  It's full of things that you are SUPPOSED to ask your future photographer.

So make life a little easier for you, I have put together all the common questions that I have been asked over the years along with my answers.  I hope these Q & A's give you the information you are looking for in deciding to partner with me.

If you have any additional questions, please get in touch by using our Contact form.

Why Should We Hire A Professional Photographer?

Your wedding is the most important day of your life and your images are the only takeaways that you will have.  Flowers die. The taste of the food and the cake will be forgotten.  There are all kinds of "photographers" out there but you want to make sure that you can trust the one that you hire.  A professional photographer will have the experience and education to help you successfully navigate the course from booking through album delivery.  Professional photographers know how to work under all conditions including unruly and non-cooperative guests, family and wedding party.  The biggest investment to ensure that you have beautiful images that will stand the test of time is to hire a professional wedding photographer.

How Long Have You Been Photographing Weddings?

I have been shooting weddings professionally since 2004 and have photographed over 300 weddings.

Can We Meet in Person?

Absolutely - I would love to!  We can get together at one of our local coffee shops and hear all about your big plans.  Just give me a call or pop me off an e-mail and we will set something up.

Can We Book You without Meeting in Person?

Of course.  Most of my couples over the last couple of years do everything through e-mail, text, phone and SKYPE.  We do a lot of consulting and everything is handled electronically now.  No snail mail or paper anymore.

What Payments Do You Accept?

We prefer e-money transfer (EMT) but also accept cash, cheque, credit cards using PayPal.  We also are pleased to take most major credit cards using Stripe (by phone only).

it Possible to Have the Digital Files?

All of my wedding collections include with high resolution, non-watermarked JPGS that you may print and share.  A personal print license is included as well.

Can We Have Unlimited / Full Day Coverage?

Our coverage is based on your needs!  Most couples do not need a photographer at the hairdressers nor until the party dies.  The most common coverage is between 7 - 9 hours.  Our minimum amount of coverage on Fridays-Sundays is 5 hours.  We will go over the aspects of your day that require coverage to ensure that we get all the important bits!

Are Engagement Sessions Recomended?

Engagement sessions are FUN!  I highly recommend that every couple should have one.  The big reason is that it gets you in front of the camera in preparation for your weddingday.  Most couples have never had professional photos taken so it gives you some idea of what will happen on your wedding dayThe photos from the engagement session can be used for invitations, save-the-date cards, or as a guestbook or signature print at your wedding.

How Long Will It Take to Get Our Pictures?

I try to get your images back to you in a very timely manner; however, the general timeline is 8 - 12 weeks.

What if Our Venue Doesn’t Have a Great Place for Pictures?

If your wedding venue doesn't have a location option on-site, I will be happy to help you find something close by.

Are We Responsible for Obtaining a Permit?

Yes, you are.  Please make sure that you book the location as soon as you decide where you want your photographs taken because many of them book very quickly -- sometimes as much as 2 years in advance.  Also, make sure that the permit goes with someone responsible to the location on your wedding day or you might not be able to use it.

How Much Time Do We Need for Wedding Day Photographs?

I recommend having at least 2 hours for us to capture all of your main formals and the creatives.  This will allow time for the family photos, the bridal party, and, of course, both of you.  The more time that you allow us, the more variety of images I can provide.

How Do We Know You Are the Right Photographer For Us?

I think it is VERY important to do your research.  What type of photography do you like? What type of editing do you want to have with your images? Shortlist 3-5 photographers you LOVE and meet with some of them. Make sure you can view their work and products (and even a whole wedding), talk to them about your wedding day and ask questions about their experience. You will spend more time with your photographer than any other vendor on the day, so you want to be sure that not only do you love their work and style, but also that you enjoy their personality. You have to be able to put your trust into this person to capture your day and give you images you will love years from now.

How Many Weddings Do You Shoot a Year?

During a normal wedding season (between May 24th and October 15th), I photography about 15 with another 10 or so during low season (October 16 - May 23).

So We Want to Book You! What’s Next?

I photograph entirely in RAW format.  Unfortunately, RAW files are not for sale as your beautiful finished images are processed in the NightinGail style that we are famous for and that we deliver to you.

Do You Have a Second Photographer that You Work With?

All of my Signature Weddings include a second photographer*.  I work with one of four professional wedding photographers depending on availability, who reflect our style and skill levels, depending on availability.  Each of our team members has shot with me for between 8 - 10 years and have their own professional wedding photography business.

*Basic collections do not include a second.

I shoot all over Ontario cottage country and beyond.  I love photographing new locations and venues.  Our regular service area covers the Muskokas, the Kawarthas, and the Haliburton Highlands.  If you are outside our home area, I'll be happy to discuss fees based on your specific location.

*Some restrictions may apply based on total distance/timing/coverage on the wedding day.

Do You Offer a Discount for Smaller Weddings?

Unfortunately, no.  The size of your wedding requires the same amount of time, effort, creativity and talent to create your beautiful images.  We will go over your plans and determine what would be best suited for your wedding.  Some discounts may be available depending on the date.

Do You Offer a Discount for Monday-Thursday Weddings?

I do offer some discounted pricing for weddings on these weekdays; however, not on any holiday Mondays or Fridays.

Will You Use Our Shotlist/Pinterest Gallery of the Photos We Want Taken?

Unfortunately, I do not work from a list of shots.  I will give you our standard family member shooting list in order to make the formals go smoothly.  I love to hear about any special or different plans who have for your wedding day and I do my best to capture all of those from the details to the reception and everything in between.  I do love Pinterest as do my brides & grooms, but it really tends to slow down the process of taking the photographs on the day.

Do you make venue visits with us before our wedding day?

Every year I shoot at new locations and I love it! Being a professional photographer means that I can walk into a new venue on the day and easily work with it. Scouting is available for an extra fee if this would make you feel more comfortable. That being said, scouting a location doesn’t guarantee that the lighting/weather will be the same on your wedding day which could completely change how I work with a location anyways.

Will You Give Us Tips on How to Prepare for our day/photos?

I absolutely will!  Once you have booked with NightinGail, you will receive our Wedding Day Planning Guide which is chocked full of tips and tricks.
